About Alison
Alison’s career as a nurse span over 50 years. Starting as a midwife and then spending the last 25 years as an advanced nurse practitioner (ANP) in GP surgeries. Alison specialises in is long-term conditions in the frail elderly including dementia. It was in this role that Alison became aware of a need for ad hoc support for the family/carers of the elderly. Although there are many excellent care agencies, none of them do ad hoc “senior” sitting, as and when, a family member may need it. For example, Alison supports Martin one night a week while his wife goes to choir. She also accompanies Brian on weekly walks and outings and supports him in dealing with admin and paperwork. These are examples of services offered by the wider Local Angels team. This gives peace of mind and a well-deserved break to their families. Alison will also offer overnight respite for families that may be away for a few nights. It keeps the client safe and the family can relax knowing their loved one is being looked after. Alison offers companionship, cooking, support for shopping and outings, paperwork and admin support.
Alison has an advanced DBS and indemnity insurance. She also undertakes annual level 3 adult safeguarding training, has a level 3 in child safeguarding and can also offer support w if you have a need with your child. Alison still works 1 day a week as an ANP in a GP surgery.
Local Angels is not an agency, just a group of professional friends in the field of companionship and understanding regarding the needs of the frail elderly. We cover for each other if needed although we try, as far as possible, to ensure continuity on a one-to-one basis. This offers additional peace of mind for the families and helps build a trusting relationship with the client.
